Colonel Geoffrey A. Norman is a native of Boulder, Colorado and a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. After the Armor Officer Basic Course, his first assignment was with the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood where he served in assignments from tank platoon leader to battalion S-4 from 1995 to 1998. COL Norman’s next operational assignment was with the 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry at Camp Garryowen in the Republic of Korea where he served as the Squadron S-1 and the Apache Troop Commander from 1998 to 2000.
After command, COL Norman participated in the Project Warrior Program and served as an Observer/Controller on the Cobra Team at the National Training Center from 2000 to 2002 and as an Armor Officers’ Advanced Course Small Group Instructor at Fort Knox from 2002 to 2005.
Upon graduation from the Command and General Staff College in 2006, COL Norman served as the executive officer to the III Corps G3 at Fort Hood and later MNC-I CJ3 at Camp Victory, Baghdad, Iraq. During OIF 06-08, COL Norman assumed duties as the executive officer for 2d Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division in western Baghdad and Nasir Wa Saalam, Iraq. Following redeployment and reset, COL Norman served as the brigade executive officer for the train-up for OIF 09-10 and subsequent deployment to northern Baghdad and Sadr City in January, 2009.
Upon redeployment from OIF 09-10, COL Norman assumed duties as the Deputy G-3 (Operations) for the 1st Cavalry Division and deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan as the Deputy CJ3 for Regional Command East for OEF XII.
COL Norman commanded 7th Squadron, 10th U.S. Cavalry, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson from September 2011 to December 2013. During this period the squadron deployed to Kuwait as the SECFOR in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Spartan Shield. After command, he attended the U.S. Army War College and participated in the Advanced Strategic Arts Program. He then served as the G-3 for the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Georgia.
COL Norman completed Brigade command of Task Force Sinai and served as the Chief of Staff of the Multinational Force & Observers in the Sinai, Egypt. He currently serves at the Pentagon in Headquarters, Department of the Army, Force Development as the Division Chief for Soldier, Maneuver and Robotics.
COL Norman is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, and the Cavalry Leader’s Course; the United States Army Command and Staff Services School and Command and General Staff College; the Joint Forces Staff College; and the Army War College. He holds Master’s of Arts degrees in Management and Leadership and Strategic Studies.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medals, Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, Iraq Campaign and Afghanistan Campaign Medals, Korea Service Medal, NATO Medal, MFO Medals, Valorous Unit Award and Meritorious Unit Citations, Parachutist and Air Assault Badges, and the Combat Action Badge. He is married to Dr. Stephanie Norman, a neonatal nurse practitioner; and they have two sons, William and Benjamin.
